Day 3 - Mara to Kisumu

It was an early start as it was a long haul to Kisumu, firstly back over the Road from Hell, then branching off to the west, on the road to Uganda, to Kisumu Beach Resort on Lake Victoria, our overnight stop. Well, someone had high hopes when they named this place, believe me! It was an uncared-for dump, to put it mildly. the sign, Below didn't instill a lot of confidence in us. apparently, the hippos in Lake Victoria come up out of the lake and wander around the campsite!

Above and Below: The quaint Sausage Tree and its fruit. The "sausages" are surprisingly heavy, about 4-5kg on avaerage.

Above: A view of the campsite. Below: Looking across Lake Victoria to the city of Kisumu, the third largest city in Kenya.

Above: Dinner preparations. Dominic stirring the pot, and helpers cutting the veggies.

There was a daily roster system of chores:- team 1, cook's assistance; team 2 - washing up; team 3 - Security (cleaning the truck); and team 4- OFF!!!! I'd managed to be allocated to Team 4 on the first day, so had the day off, which gave us a chance to see what each team had to do. Here, we had to do the washing up, which wasn't all that hard, as everyone had to do their own plate and cutlery, so we had to do the pots and pans etc. Many hands make light work ...

If the hippos came to visit during the night, I didn't know anything about it!
